The full details of midwifery care are reviewed so that you can carefully consider whether our care is appropriate for you. We will want to know your expectations, plans, hopes and concerns about the care you wish to receive. At the first or second visit, a full history and physical assessment are done.

Your primary midwife will be assigned to you and she will be responsible for your care during the complete course of care to 6 weeks post partum.

In general, women are seen once a month until 28 weeks; every 2 weeks to 36 week; and weekly thereafter, until labor begins. After the birth, at least five visits are made including the final visit about six weeks after the birth. Additional visits are arranged as needed for individual circumstances. Postnatal visits in the first week or two will be done in your home.

We will discuss your preferred place of birth with you.
We will attend births at home for women who have no medical or pregnancy problems.
We have hospital privileges at Leamington District Memorial Hospital and Windsor Regional Hospital.

Depending on the nature of the problem, we will refer you to your family physician for non-pregnancy related concerns or directly to a specialist like an obstetrician for pregnancy related concerns or a pediatrician for baby related concerns.

All care provided by the midwife is free to residents of Canada.
